On occasion of the 45th anniversary of the well-established Galerie Thomas for German Expressionism and Classic Modern Art at Maximilianstrasse 25, Raimund Thomas and Silke Thomas are opening a second gallery, Galerie Thomas Modern at Tuerkenstrasse 16 in the Kunstareal, Munich’s gallery and museum quarter.

Galerie Thomas at Maximilianstrasse 25 is one of the leading international galleries of German Expressionism and Classic Modern Art. It focuses on Blauer Reiter, Brücke, and Bauhaus artists such as Wassily Kandinsky, Alexej Jawlensky, August Macke, Franz Marc, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Otto Mueller, Karl Schmidt-Rottluff, Emil Nolde, Lyonel Feininger, Oskar Schlemmer, and Paul Klee. Works by Max Beckmann, Pablo Picasso, Edvard Munch, Fernand Léger, and others are impressive proof of the gallery’s activities in the field of Classic Modern Art. Post-War art by Jean Dubuffet, Sam Francis, or Serge Poliakoff, for example, is a third pillar.

Galerie Thomas Modern at Tuerkenstrasse 16 will concentrate on presenting today’s advanced and young modern artists. Taking up the gallery’s history, works by the major artists of Pop Art will be represented, as well as Abstract American Art of the 1950s to 1980s, and Minimal Art. In addition, Galerie Thomas Modern will showcase distinct individual positions of contemporary German artists—Georg Baselitz, Anselm Kiefer, Gerhard Richter, or Sigmar Polke—and also include new names from the international art scene such as Peter Halley, Subodh Gupta, and other, quite surprising ones. Sculptures, e. g. by Stefan Balkenhol or John Chamberlain, will round off the range.
