In its current exhibition, the Brücke-Museum in Berlin deals with the special relationship between image and frame

For the first time, the significance of the picture frame for the artists of the 'Brücke' will be examined in an exhibition and presented on the basis of works by Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Erich Heckel, Otto Mueller, Emil Nolde, Max Pechstein and Karl Schmidt-Rottluff. Many of these important exhibits are initially not perceived by the public in connection with framing, but the artistic design of the frames and their compositional connection with the picture is of particular importance to the group of artists. The exhibition expands the viewer's view beyond the canvas and provides new insights into the work of the Brücke artists.

The exhibition runs until mid-March 2020.
