inscribed on the base 'Rudolf Belling'
The present bronze was the very first cast of this work. Rudolf Belling had it cast in Turkey and kept it until his death. As early as 1967 Rudolf Belling was commissioned by the Confederation of German Trade Unions and the City of Munich to create a sculpture for the so-called "Schuttberg" (rubble hill). This hill was piled up of rubble from buildings destroyed during the war. The hill, which today bears the name Olympiaberg, was planted and since 1972 has been part of the Olympic Park. Belling designed the "Blossom Motif" in a height of 43 cm, it was then enlarged to 645 cm. The monumental sculpture, titled "Schuttblume" (Rubble Flower), was to be placed on the crest of the Olympia Hill, but that was prevented by the architects of the olympic buildings, today it stands on a lower side hill.
