“I love to put things together. I’ve come to recognize that the way I think is collage.” L.N. Louise Nevelson's many-facetted work culminated in the 1950s in the sculptural wall pieces, for which she became famous. Her collages are composed of found objects of all kinds - the debris of civilisation, gathered by the artist, tirelessly collected on her forays through New York, stored in her house and laid out in her studio to form compositions. In the new context of a work of art - created in a stress field of chance and artistic control - the remains of our society develop their own new poetry.
