Arnaldo Pomodoro is considered one of the leading Italian Informel sculptors of the 1960s. His works reflect his early activities as a goldsmith as well as his interest in technology. Abstract geometrical objects made of bronze, silver, iron, wood or gold, their surface partly cracked and open, expose their rather futuristic innards. Pomodoro worked not only as a sculptor, but also as a graphic artist and as a stage and costume designer for the Italian theatre. Pomodoro's sculptures can be seen on public places around the world and are included in leading public collections. A monumental 'Sfera' with a diameter of 330 cm was set up on the United Nations Square in New York in 1996.
