Baltasar Lobo counts as one of the leading Spanish sculptors of Classic Modernism. He settled at the Montparnasse in Paris, where he became friends with Pablo Picasso and shared a studio with Henri Laurens. He soon exhibited his works together with Henri Matisse, Picasso, Maurice Utrillo and Fernand Léger and became well-known for his numerous sculptural variations on the 'mother and child' theme. Lobo's characteristic vocabulary of form remained organic and representational, and he mainly worked in bronze. His sculptures can be seen on public places around the world and are on display at the Museo Baltasar Lobo in Zamora, Spain.
