Masuyama originally studied classic oil painting and mural painting in Japan. In 1995 he was granted a scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), which allowed him to study at the Academy of Art in Düsseldorf, where he still lives today. He subsequently studied media art at the art Academy for Media in Cologne. At that time he was already firmly set on photography and was creating photo collages, which demonstrated the passing of time. For several years, Masuyama has been recreating famous works of art history with photographs – or rather collages of details from them and impressively demonstrates the artistic possibilities of modern photography.
