Lyonel Feininger was one of the most significant artists of Expressionism and Cubism. He worked with the groups 'Die Brücke' and 'Der Blaue Reiter' and was in charge of the graphic workshop of the Bauhaus. Together with Paul Klee, Wassily Kandinsky and Alexej von Jawlensky, he also formed the exhibition group 'Die Blaue Vier'. The longtime caricaturist that he was, he developed a distinctive style of painting by abstracting and heightening the objects in his works. The thus achieved impact and expressiveness of Feininger's style influenced numerous contemporary artists and were the reason for his significance and success.
