Robert Delaunay is considered the main proponent of Orphic Cubism, or 'Orphism'. Starting with the series of 'Fenêtres' (window pictures), the modern abstraction of his Cubist works gradually turned into pure colourism. Invited by Wassily Kandinsky, Delaunay also exhibited his works together with the artists from the group 'Der Blaue Reiter'. In the 1930s, he developed the abstract circular forms of the 'Rythmes' series, which once again picked up on the topic of discs and circles. He worked together with his wife Sonia Delaunay, who was also a painter and a designer.
