The presentation at Art Basel 2019 will focus on works by the Norwegian painter Edvard Munch and the French artist Chaim Soutine. Beyond German Expressionism with the painters of the "Brücke" and the "Blauer Reiter", Munch and Soutine were each in their own way and as solitary artistic personalities highly influential for the art of their time and paved the way for the further development of painting up to Abstract Expressionism. But not only their painterly pictorial language, but also the themes and iconographic formulations they found for their compositions, are extremely significant contributions to modernity.
