A park for 'Maja' by Gerhard Marcks in Philadelphia

In 1949 the Association for Public Art acquired the sculpture of “Maja” by Gerhard Marcks, created in 1942 and cast in 1947. At first it was shown in several important exhibitions on contemporary sculpture in the USA, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and then got a place in front of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. The sculpture has been extensively restored in recent years. Now it has been placed in a new location: Marcks’s "Maja" is located directly on Benjamin Franklin Parkway in Philadelphia in Maja Park, which is named after her.
