Anselm Kiefer receives German National Prize

Great news about one of the most important contemporary German artist whose works we are pleased to present at our gallery: Anselm Kiefer receives the highly endowed German National Prize (Deutscher Nationalpreis)!

The German National Foundation has awarded the prestigious prize since 1997. In this year's evaluation, the jury took into account Anselm Kiefer's contribution to the history of art and culture in finding identity and nation after the Second World War and the Holocaust. In his works, the artist reminds us „of how much suffering the supposed 'hereditary enmity' between the Germans and the French brought upon our peoples and how great our responsibility is to cherish and cultivate the reconciliation achieved after 1945,“ as stated by Thomas Mirow, Chairman of the Foundation's Board of Directors.

The official award ceremony of the German National Prize will take place on 6 July 2023 at the French Friedrichstadt Church (Französische Friedrichstadtkirche) in Berlin.
