August and Elisabeth Macke

In cooperation with the LWL Museum of Art and Culture, Münster, the Franz Marc Museum presents the exhibition "August und Elisabeth Macke. The Painter and the Manageress" through 17 September 2023.

Archival documents, letters, notes, photographs, paintings and works on paper reflect the couple's artistic relationship. The exhibition also takes a look at August Macke's artistic work and his wife's role in this process. Elisabeth Macke appears as an inspiring muse and manager, initiator of convivial gatherings with patrons, writers, gallery owners and publishers, which significantly increased interest in August Macke's art.
