As one of the founding members of the legendary artist group Blauer Reiter, Gabriele Münter is widely considered one of the
most significant figures of the German Expressionist movement and a true pioneer of Modern Art. In this first comprehensive retrospective in Switzerland, the Paul Klee Zentrum not only displays her paintings, drawings and prints but also showcases Münter’s extensive photographic oeuvre, documenting her early travels to America, Tunisia and France, as well as highlighting how the artist, in a world dominated by men, developed her own powerful visual language.
The exhibition is staged in a cooperation with the Gabriele Münter and Johannes Eichner Foundation, Städtische Galerie im Lenbachhaus and Kunstbau Munich and is on view through May 8th, 2022.
