Georg Baselitz at Pinakothek der Moderne

On the occasion of Georg Baselitz's 85th birthday, the Pinakothek der Moderne, Munich, presents the complete suite of test prints for the artist's book “Malelade” from 1990, acquired for the Staatliche Graphische Sammlung München. The exhibition offers the unique opportunity to view the process of creating the 41 large-format drypoint engravings in their entirety, step by step, from close up.

In his project Baselitz impressively summarises the current state of human existence in the age of modernity. He refers to both historical events and personal reflections and explores the essence of German history and destinies in the form of sound images.

The 148 prints not only enrich Georg Baselitz's extensive collection of works in Munich, but also provide a fascinating insight into the creative process before the actual printing of the edition. The exhibition is on view until 22 October 2023.
