George Rickey on Park Avenue

George Rickey - Three Lines Ten Feet

George Rickey's kinetic sculptures are taking over New York's Park Avenue. Starting from today, nine of the artist's signature kinetic sculptures will be on view until November as part of the exhibition 'George Rickey: Monumental Sculpture on Park Avenue'. The project results from a collaboration between 'The George Rickey Foundation', 'The George Rickey Estate, LLC.', 'The Sculpture Committee of The Fund for Park Avenue' and 'NYC Parks' Art'. At the same time, three sculptures will be on view at Gallery Kasmin's rooftop sculpture garden in Chelsea.

Celebrating the life and work of the distinguished U.S. sculptor, these events coincide with the publication of a biography of George Rickey.

George Rickey's works have been an integral part of our gallery program for many years. We fondly recall the personal encounters with this outstanding artist and personality. We also remember well our booth at Art Basel in 1996, which was devoted to his sculptures camouflaged in a natural setting.

We are pleased that this outstanding sculptor, who lived in Germany for many years, is getting the recognation he deserves! In the early 1960s, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) invited him to stay in Berlin, where he set up his studio. He was represented in major exhibitions, especially in renowned museums in Germany, such as the Kunsthalle Düsseldorf (1962), the Berlin Haus am Waldsee (1969) or the Kestner-Gesellschaft in Hanover (1973).
