Sam Gilliam: Full Circle at Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden

Sam Gilliam FULL CIRCLE opens May 25^th, 2022 at the Hirschhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, debuting a series of new paintings. Over the course of sixty years Gilliam has staged a prolific investigation into abstraction, producing a vast body of work across media through which he has continually pursued new avenues of artistic expression. Initially experimenting with large, colour-stained, manipulated, unstretched canvases, Gilliam continues to experiment with staining, soaking and pouring pigments, expanding on the process-oriented tradition of Washington Color School artists. FULL CIRCLE is on view through September 11, 2022.
