"Composition orange et noire", created in 1937 shortly before his third visit to the USA, is a good example of Léger's ability and at the same time a typical work of his third creative period. The partially amorphous, partially cylindrical and organic forms have a three-dimensional effect, seem to float in space, their position is not fixed, they rotate around each other, drift apart and back together again. The clear colours and the dark borders of the individual shapes, which are typical for Léger, increase their plasticity. The objects are not clearly recognizable and oscillate between natural and technical-geometric forms.
