Using only graphite as a medium, Simon Schubert creates the illusion of a three-dimensional space and light on a simple sheet of paper.
His interiors, devoid of humans, emanate something mysterious. We are wandering through old mystical houses, seemingly uninhabited. Few furniture, no decoration which allows us to gather information on the inhabitants or former owners. The viewer asks himself: What would I find, if I stepped up or down these stairs? What a luxurious hall, secret laboratory, comfortable library might be behind this door?
Simon Schubert is virtuosic at playing with our thoughts. Our imagination is challenged, his rooms form a canvas for a plethora of different films.
