Happy Birthday, Jim Dine!

The pop art artist Jim Dine turns 83 on June 16!

Jim Dine is considered one of the foremost protagonists of American Pop Art. He works in numerous genres, including painting, graphic work and sculpture, photography, poetry and theatre. He is known for his ability to fuse Pop art with an emotionally charged, expressive language. A repertoire of recurring subjects such as hearts, Venus and bathrobes can be found throughout his oeuvre.

Jim Dine's main concern has always been to 'paint, what I am'. As early as the beginning of the 1960s, when images of simple household appliances stood for the human existence - with a special reference to the childhood memories of his parents' household supply store - his art was the expression of the awareness of a personal identity. He always conveyed his experiences on a metaphoric and emotional level and not as an anecdotic tale of his life.

From September 14, Galerie Thomas Modern is presenting the exhibition 'Jim Dine - New painting and sculpture' which opens during OPEN art weekend in Munich.
